Working Groups
PAVE Laboratory Working Group
Chair: Julie McElrath, M.D., PhD
Co-Chair: Richard A. Koup, M.D.
The PAVE Laboratory Working Group's main interests are in having the relevant programs come to consensus on certain common laboratory procedures, and to avoid redundancy in setting up laboratory support across different trials networks, particularly in the international setting. Actions to be taken by the Laboratory Working Group include:
- establishing a consensus protocol for processing, shipping and cryopreservation across PAVE sites
- determining if minor differences between the consensus protocol and established SOPs affect outcomes (this will be piloted at a few sites)
- training and instituting the protocol at all new sites
PAVE Site Development Working Group
Chair: Ann Duerr, M.D., PhD, MPH
Co-Chair: Phil Renzullo, PhD, MPH
The PAVE Site Development Working Group is composed of representatives from HVTN, DOD, CDC, VRC and DAIDS. The operating principles and goals are as follows:
- initial focus on preparation for phase III trials
- development of sustainable intervention research capacity in developing countries
- added value in terms of scientific productivity and rigor efficiency
- respect for autonomy of agencies, groups and local investigators
- transparency for participating groups and individuals
PAVE Efficacy Trial Design Working Group
Chair:
Co-Chair:
The PAVE Efficacy Trial Design Working Group's main interests are in having U.S. Government agencies come to consensus on certain protocol design issues across different trials networks within the CDC, DoD, and NIH in international sites centered on Phase III HIV Vaccine Clinical Trials. It is expected that the parent PAVE Committee will request active engagement of this working group in the design of PAVE 100. Although the PAVE 100 Protocol Team will require identification of a primary, protocol statistician, there was consensus among working group members to provide active input into the design of PAVE 100 with specific mechanisms for accomplishing this to be determined.
PAVE Communications Working Group
Chair: Peter Velasco (HJF/DAIDS)
Co-Chair: Katie Moore (IAVI)
The PAVE Communications Working Group (CWG) is composed of representatives from NIAID Office of Communications and Government Relations, DAIDS, HVTN, VRC, IAVI, CDC and USAID. Additional members participate on an as-needed basis depending on the communications issues at hand. The goal of the PAVE Communications Working Group is to highlight communications issues related to PAVE activities in order to add value to PAVE activities. This is accomplished by exchanging information, sharing lessons learned, and harmonizing approaches and key messages.
The CWG's work in not intended to supplant or duplicate an individual PAVE partner's communications activities.
If you are interested in participating on any of the PAVE working groups, please contact Mrs. Joanne O'Brien at jobrien@mail.nih.gov.
